I Don't Mean to Kill Your Christmas Joy, but...

>> Wednesday, December 2, 2009

"Anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strength."

-Charles Spurgeon

We like to talk about Christmas as a time when everyone is friendlier, gives more, and loves more.  After all, it is a celebration of the birth of Jesus our Savior, the gift of perfect love and sacrifice, right?

The reality is that December is a month of high stress, high anxiety, elevated arguments, and high crime.  Okay, call me cynical, but I have someone in law enforcement in the family.  Go find a police officer that is working or has ever worked on Christmas Eve and ask him how many domestic calls are received on this holy night.

Have I killed your Christmas joy?  Bear with me.

My point is that we do have a spiritual enemy, and we need to recognize that it is only natural that he would kick his attack into high gear on an occasion such as Christmas.  If we recognize the devil's schemes, we can resist them.  Then we can really have a Merry Christmas.

Expect attack, expect anxiety, and be prepared with the sword of the spirit, God's word:

Phillipians 4:6-7

2Timothy 1:12

Colossians 4:12b

Lamentations 3:22-23

I'm sure you can add to this list.  Arm yourself now, don't be surprised when you are ambushed, and kill it with scripture.  Then have a Merry Christmas.
