Making Faith Your Personal Possession

>> Wednesday, October 21, 2009

Let me say I believe God will supply all my need, and then let me run dry, with no outlook, and see whether I will go through the trial of faith, or whether I will sink to something lower.

Faith must be tested, because it can be turned into a personal possession only through conflict. What is your faith up against just now?

-Oswald Chambers

This quote comes from my favorite entry in My Utmost For His Highest. It is dated August 29th; however, I see it every morning as it has been posted on my bathroom mirror for over a year.

You would think I wouldn't need it anymore.

However, it is oh so easy to "sink to something lower" any time my faith is challenged. It seems so much more reasonable to worry and fret!

This quote reminds me that I have a reason to thank God for the challenges and uncertainties in life - It turns faith into a personal possession.

My God loves me enough to help me hold my faith as a possession I am sure of, not just a hypothetical feeling. I can't claim to have a quality I've never used.

I think our faith needs to be exercised just like the rest of our body, and it only gets stronger through repetition.

What are you up against right now?

Can you thank God for allowing you to exercise and claim your faith?
