![]() | My Utmost For His Highest, Classic Edition, Mass Market Paperback By Oswald Chambers / Barbour Publishing |
If you know that you are stuck in a self-centered pity party, no one can kick you out of it faster than Oswald Chambers.
I am in my second year of reading through this book, and I am amazed at how relevant Chambers can be to today's Christian, even in the language of his day.
He is like my personal spiritual trainer.
Let me warn you, Chambers will not be easy on you. Let me give you some examples:
"If you have the whine in you, kick it it out ruthlessly. It is a positive crime to be weak in God's strength."
"God wants you to understand that it is a life of faith, not a life of sentimental enjoyment of His blessing."
"-I can't do that just now, I am praying; it is my hour with God. No, it is your hour with your habit."
"Let God's truth soak into you by soaking in it, not by worrying into it."
"The stamp of the saint is that he can waive his own rights and obey the Lord Jesus."
"The words of the Lord hurt and offend until there is nothing left to hurt or offend. Jesus Christ has not tenderness whatever toward anything that is ultimately going to ruin a man in the service of God."
"The good is always the enemy of the best."
There are 365 days of this joyful training. Before you walk away, let me tell you that Oswald Chambers will also lead you into an intimate walk with God that does not just store up knowledge, but pours out His love:
"You are worth far more to Him now than you were in your days of conscious delight and thrilling testimony."
"Keep at the Source, guard well your belief in Jesus Christ and your relationship to Him, and there will be a steady flow for other lives, no dryness and no deadness."
"God's love to me is inexhaustible, and I must love others from the bedrock of God's love to me."
"Tell God you are ready to be offered, and God will prove Himself to be all you ever dreamed He would be."
There are a lot of "feel-good" Christian devotionals available today, but if you really want to grow, if you really want to allow God to use you to reach beyond yourself, this is the one you should be reading.
The best part? It won't cost you much financially. You can click on the link above and buy the paperback version for $3.99. (The price on the date of this posting).
